He has spent almost four decades in the practice of law, principally as a criminal advocate. His practice has taken him from the District Courts at Hisar to the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court of India, with arguing number of important and reported cases. Among the matters that have marked his career are the Manoj–Babli honour killing case, the Relu Ram Poonia murder case and the Dabra gang-rape case—cases that placed questions of justice, social power and the authority of law at the centre of public attention.

His work has extended beyond the courtroom. He has held the position of State Chairman of the Legal Department of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, served on the Haryana Congress Manifesto Committee, and is the National Legal Advisor to the All India Backward Classes Federation. His public work has been particularly concerned with questions of representation, equality and the advancement of backward classes.

Across these roles runs a consistent thread: a belief that the law is at its best when it stands between power and the vulnerable, and that an advocate’s duty extends beyond winning cases to defending the larger idea of justice.
